 Manhattan District Attorney

Tali Farhadian Weinstein is a prosecutor, a professor, and a proven criminal justice reformer.  She is also an immigrant, a daughter, a wife, and the mother of three girls. After earning degrees from Yale College, Oxford University where she was a Rhodes Scholar, and Yale Law School, Tali was a Law Clerk for Judge Merrick B. Garland at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and at the U.S. Supreme Court for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

Throughout Barack Obama’s presidency, Tali worked at the U.S. Department of Justice, first as Counsel to Attorney General Eric Holder, and then as a federal prosecutor. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Tali investigated and prosecuted cases ranging from gun violence and murders to public corruption, tax and other frauds, and national security matters. Most recently, Tali served as the General Counsel of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

The Office of the District Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of violations of New York State laws. The position has been held by the incumbent district attorney, Cy Vance, since 2010. Vance is not running for re-election to a fourth term, leaving wide open race for his replacement.  If elected, Tali would be the first woman, and the first immigrant, elected to lead the Office.

Tali is the only candidate who has worked for both the Justice Department and city prosecutor’s office. Her campaign has been endorsed by former US Attorney General, Eric Holder, former NAACP President, Ben Jealous as well U.S. Representatives Ritchie Torres (NY-15th) Nydia Velazquez (NY-7th), and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13th). If elected, Tali would join Arlington, VA Commonwealth's Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti as the second Iranian American woman to become a District Attorney.
