U.S. House of Representatives (D-52nd/CA))
Scott H. Peters represents California's 52nd congressional district. The district includes coastal and central portions of the city of San Diego. Peters previously served two terms on the San Diego City Council from 2000 to 2008. He serves on the House Armed Services and Science, Space, & Technology Committees.
A supporter of the Iran nuclear negotiations, Peters voted in favor of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 and for the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Peters is a supporter and original cosponsor of H.Res.156, a resolution in honor of the Iranian New Year (Nowruz). He was also an original co-sponsor of H.Res.130, acknowledging the Cyrus Cylinder as a symbol of respect for human rights and commemorating the cylinder’s tour in the United States.
Peters is a co-host of PAAIA’s annual Nowruz reception on Capitol Hill. He also served as an honorary co-host of the opening reception to celebrate A Thousand Years of the Persian Book exhibition at Library of Congress in March of 2013.
