IAPAC holds Spring Gala in Honor of the Accomplishments of Iranian Women – May 27, 2004

Washington, D.C., June 25, 2004 – On the evening of Thursday, May 27, 2004, the Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC) held a gala at the Washington, D.C. Ritz-Carlton Hotel celebrating the accomplishments of Iranian women and honoring Mrs. Mahnaz Afkhami, CEO of the Women’s Learning Partnership, Mrs. Mehrangiz Kar, human rights activist, and Ms. Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace Laureate.

The charismatic Mrs. Azar Nafisi, author of New York Times Best Seller “Reading Lolita in Tehran,” presided over the awards ceremony and presented the honorees with an artistic replica of Cyrus the Great’s Cylinder, the first universal declaration of human rights, made by renowned Iranian artist Nasser Ovissi. Other speakers included the Honorable Senator John Corzine (D-NJ), Congressional candidate Mrs. Goli Ameri (R-OR), Miss. World First Runner-Up Nazanin Afshin-Jam and Mr. Soroush Richard Shehabi, one of IAPAC’s original 22 founding Trustees and 2004 Spring Gala Chair.

Senator John Corzine Meets with IAPAC Board of Trustees – December 13, 2003

Washington, D.C. January 2, 2004 – As part of its Board of Trustees Dinner Series, the Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), met with US Senator Jon Corzine (D-NJ) in New York City on December 13, 2003. The purp ose of such events is to acquaint leading members of the United States Congress from both parties with the issues of domestic concern, relevant to the Iranian American community.

Senator Corzine is Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC). The DSCC is the national committee of the Democratic Party formed to elect Democratic members of the United States Senate. Senator Corzine was elected to his first term in the Senate in November 2000, after a long and successful career as an investment banker.

U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney Joins IAPAC’s Kick off Reception in New York – December 5, 2003

"As New Yorkers, 9/11 affected my constituents and me tremendously-- Manhattan and Queens lost many residents to the terrorist attacks. In the aftermath, we all realize it is vitally important to protect Americans better. However, we shouldn't preempt civil liberties or close our doors altogether in place of building efficient and effective visa policies. After all, we are a country of immigrants."

These were the words of United States Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D/14th- NY), guest speaker at the New York City kick-off reception for the Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC) on December 5, 2003.

IAPAC Holds Reception with Mrs. Goli Ameri, U.S. Candidate for Congress (OR-01) - November 6, 2003

Washington D.C., November 24, 2003 - The Iranian American Political Action Committee held a reception with special guest Mrs. Goli Ameri, a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress (OR-01). The event was arranged for the purpose of familiarizing the Iranian American community in Washington D.C. with Mrs. Ameri’s bid to win Oregon’s first district, as well as with IAPAC’s mission and goals. If successful, Mrs. Ameri is poised to make history by becoming
the first American of Iranian Heritage to be elected to Congress.

 

IAPAC Holds Kick-Off Reception in California - October 4, 2003

The Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC) held its California kickoff reception on October 4 in Atherton, CA. The reception was a huge success, attracting over a hundred attendees. The reception was attended by IAPAC co-founding members and its Political Director as well as members of the Bay Area Iranian-American Voter Association, the National Iranian American Council and many distinguished guests from the San Francisco Bay Area.

The reception was a huge success, attracting well over one hundred attendees. The reception was attended by three United States Senators-The Honorable Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, The Honorable Charles E. Schumer of New York, and The Honorable Thomas R. Carper of Delaware, as well as distinguished Iranian Americans from many sectors of American society.
