Washington, D.C. - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has sent a holiday greeting to Iranian Americans celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year festival.

The Persian New Year has been celebrated for at least 3,000 years and is rooted in the rituals and traditions of the Zoroastrian religion. Nowruz is the celebration of spring Vernal Equinox. It is observed by millions worldwide and is a harbinger of renewal and regeneration, marking the passage from the gray of winter to nature’s rebirth in spring.

In a statement released by the Speaker’s office on March 18th, Pelosi praised Iranian Americans for their contributions to the social and economic fabric of American society, and extended her best wishes for a joyous celebration. “As Speaker of the House, and the Representative from California’s 8th Congressional District in San Francisco, I am proud to have a diverse constituency, including a vibrant Iranian-American community that represents the beauty and strength of our country,” said Pelosi. “Please accept my best wishes for good health and happiness together, surrounded by your friends and family, for many years to come.”
