Momentum Builds for the Amini Campaign

Seattle, WA – On August 12, 2008, the Seattle Times, the largest daily newspaper in Washington State, endorsed the candidacy of Susan Amini for King County Superior Court Judge Position 1. The Seattle Times recommendation marked the second major newspaper endorsement of the Amini campaign in the past month.

The Seattle Times Editorial Board based their recommendation on the unique attributes and legal experiences Amini will bring to the Superior Court. “An immigrant educated in Paris and Tehran, she left Iran at the time of Ayatollah Khomeini and went to law school in Maryland,” said the Seattle Times. “She knows the problems of immigrants and has become an expert on the rights of the disabled, having had to advocate for her legally blind son, now a Rhodes scholar.” The Seattle Times also commended Amini’s campaign for raising more money, from a long list of contributors, than both her opponents combined.

Amini faces Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tim Bradshaw and Assistant Attorney General Suzanne Parisien in the August 19th primary. Any candidate who receives more than 50% of the vote is declared elected. If no candidate gets over 50%, the top two will compete in a run-off election in November. If successful, Amini will become the first American of Iranian descent to be elected to the Superior Court in the state of Washington.
