Kristen Gillibrand is the junior United States Senator from New York, in office since 2009. Previously, she served in the United States House of Representatives, representing New York's 20th congressional district (2007–09).  Gillibrand serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee. 

Gillibrand is serving out her first term in the U.S. Senate and is up for reelection in 2018.  One of the rising stars within the Senate Democratic caucus, Gillibrand is considered a top presidential contender in 2020. 

A proponent of immigration reform, Gillibrand supported the bipartisan Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, which passed the Senate in 2013. 

In 2017, Gillibrand voiced opposition to President Trump’s travel ban stating that it is "antithetical to our American values and what the Statue of Liberty stands for."  She is a co-sponsor of legislation to reverse President Trump’s executive order and block its implementation.
