Kia served as a legal counsel for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee under Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA).  Afterwards, he worked at the office of Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) who has endorsed Kia’s campaign for Congress.

Kia believes America is premised on the idea that all men are created equal and was built by immigrants for immigrants, where no one should feel like they are a second-class citizen.  When his mother asked him whether they should sell their home and move to Canada b/c of President Trump’s travel plan, Kia decided that now is the time to act on his long time goal of moving back to Irvine and run for U.S. Congress. Kia supports the Iran nuclear deal and will work to uphold it in Congress. In regard to broader U.S.- Iran relations, he believes that we should build on new approaches that could help in end 35-year enmity between Iran and the United States.
