U.S. House of Representatives (R-7th/FL)
John L. Mica represents Florida's 7th Congressional District, which consists of the suburban area between Orlando and Daytona Beach and includes St. Augustine. Mica serves on the House Oversight & Government Reform and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees.
Mica has been recognized as a national leader in transportation issues. He has spearheaded legislative efforts to improve our nation's infrastructure and is a Chairman of the Transportation Committee.
Mica is a supporter and original cosponsor of H.Res.156, a resolution in honor of the Iranian New Year (Nowruz). He was also an original co-sponsor of H.Res.130, acknowledging the Cyrus Cylinder as a symbol of respect for human rights and commemorating the cylinder’s tour in the United States.
A proponent of civil liberties for all Americans, Mica was an original cosponsor of House Resolution 476, which condemns discrimination and bigotry against Iranian Americans. He is a co-sponsor of H.Res.808, a resolution calling on the Iranian government to immediately release Siamak Namazi and his father, Baquer Namazi, who are dual U.S.- Iranian citizens currently detained in Iran.
Along with the entire Republican caucus in both chambers of Congress, Mica opposed the Iran nuclear agreement (JCPOA).
Mica served as an honorary co-host of the opening reception to celebrate A Thousand Years of the Persian Book exhibition at Library of Congress in March of 2013.
