Gerald E. Connolly

U.S. House of Representatives (D-11th/VA)

Gerald 'Gerry' E. Connolly represents the 11th District of Virginia. His district encompasses most of Fairfax County, the city of Fairfax, and part of eastern Prince William County. Connolly was first elected in 2008 and serves on the Committee of Foreign Affairs and Oversight and Government reform.

From 1979 through 1989, Connolly worked with the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. In 1995, he was elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and in 2003 was elected as Chairman of the Board.

As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Connolly has routinely served as a voice of caution regarding international matters. Connolly was the sponsor of the Commission to Verify Iranian Nuclear Compliance Act. The bipartisan legislation would establish a Congressional-Executive commission with bipartisan-appointed staff to oversee implementation of the Iran nuclear agreement.

Connolly is a co-host of PAAIA’s annual Nowruz reception on Capitol Hill and is a co-sponsor H.Res.238 recognizing the cultural and historical significance of the Iranian New Year.  He was also an original co-sponsor of H.Res.130, acknowledging the Cyrus Cylinder as a symbol of respect for human rights and commemorating the cylinder’s tour in the United States.
