U.S. House of Representatives
Edward Randall "Ed" Royce is the U.S. Representative for California's 39th congressional district. The district lies in northern Orange County. Royce is the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Committee of Financial Services.
Throughout his tenure in Congress, Royce has consistently earned honors and awards from the National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, National Federation of Independent Businesses, Watchdogs of the Treasury, Americans for Tax Reform, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, United Seniors Association, 60 Plus, American Shareholders Association, Citizens for a Sound Economy, and the Small Business Survival Committee.
Royce was the sponsor of H.Res.808, calling on the government of Iran to release Iranian Americans Siamak Namazi and his father, Baquer Namazi. In addition, Royce was a cosponsor of H.RES. 267. The resolution, which recognizes the cultural and historical significance of Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, and expresses appreciation to Iranian Americans for their contributions to society, passed the U.S. House of Representatives in March 2010.
Royce, in collaboration with Congressman Gerald E. Connolly (D-VA), sponsored PAAIA's Capitol Hill briefing at the House Foreign Affairs Committee entitled "Behind the Electronic Curtain: Perspectives on Internet Restrictions and Access to Media in Iran."
