Candidate for U.S. Senate (D-MD)
Donna Edwards represents Maryland's 4th congressional district, serving since 2008. Prior to serving in the U.S. Congress, she was the executive director of the Arca Foundation in Washington, DC. She serves on the Transportation and Science & Technology Committees.
In 2016, Edwards ran for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D). She was defeated in the Maryland democratic primary by Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-8th/MD)
A proponent of immigration reform, Edwards is a cosponsor of the Dream Act of 2011 and the Border Security, Economic opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013. She is a supporter and original cosponsor of H.Res.156, a resolution in honor of the Iranian New Year (Nowruz). n addition, she is an original co-sponsor of H.Res130, acknowledging the Cyrus Cylinder as a symbol of respect for human rights and religious tolerance and commemorating the cylinder’s tour in the United States.
A supporter of the Iran nuclear negotiations, Edwards voted in favor of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 and for the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
