Christopher Murphy is the junior United States Senator from Connecticut, in office since 2013. He previously served in the United States House of Representatives, representing Connecticut's 5th congressional district from 2007 to 2013. He currently serves on the Appropriations, Foreign Relations, and the Health & Pensions Committees. Murphy is serving his first term in the U.S. Senate and is up for reelection in 2018.  

As a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, Murphy has been an outspoken proponent of diplomacy, international human rights and the need for clear-eyed American leadership abroad.  He is  a staunch advocate and defender of the JCPOA. 

Murphy is a proponent of immigrant and civil rights.  He supported comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the Senate in 2013.  Murphy signed a letter urging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to issue waivers to the discriminatory dual nationality provisions contained in the Visa Waiver Program reforms passed into law in 2015.
