Carolyn Maloney
U.S. House of Representatives (D-12th/NY)
Carolyn B. Maloney represents the 12th district in New York City. Her district contains many of the City's most historically well-known neighborhoods, including most of the East Side. Maloney serves as the Chairwoman of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, which is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. House of Representatives. Maloney is also a senior member of the House Financial Service Committee and serves as Vice-Chair for the Joint Economic Committee.
Maloney is a strong proponent of civil liberties and immigration reform. She is the original cosponsor of H.Res.476, which condemned discrimination and bigotry against Iranian Americans. An opponent of President Trump’s Travel Ban, Maloney co-sponsored H.R.724, which declares that the order has no effect or force of law and no funds shall be used to implement it.
Maloney serves as a host to PAAIA’s annual Nowruz reception on Capitol Hill and is the sponsor of H.Res.211, recognizing the cultural and historical significance of the Iranian New Year.
