Amir Farokhi
Candidate Atlanta City Council Post 2 At Large |
"I am touched and honored to receive
IAPAC's endorsement of my candidacy for the Atlanta City Council. IAPAC's
support is tremendously helpful to my campaign because it allows me to
build a campaign that will reach voters across Atlanta and promote changes
that make it easier and safer to live in Atlanta. I commend IAPAC and
PAAIA for their work promoting the diversity and success of the
Iranian-American community and supporting Iranian American engagement in
public life. I hope to make the Iranian American community proud as I
build a winning campaign." |

Having been born and raised in Atlanta, Farokhi takes pride in
understanding the needs and concerns of Atlanta's diverse population.
While attending Duke University for his bachelor's degree, he served in
the student government where he pushed through legislation to have Martin
Luther King Jr. day recognized as an official school holiday.
After graduating from Duke, Farokhi lived abroad in Taiwan and traveled
extensively. From this experience, Farokhi gained important lessons that
he believes will help turn Atlanta into a livable world-class city that
embraces its diversity, history, and Southern roots. Farokhi returned to
Duke University for law school and then to Atlanta where he currently
practices law at a prestigious local law firm.
Farokhi serves on the Board of Directors of the Charles R. Drew Charter
School in East Lake and the Board of Trustees of The Galloway School. He
is also a Fellow with the Truman National Security Project.
Farokhi is running for Atlanta's Post 2 At-Large City Council Seat. The
election, which will be held in November of 2009, marks the first time an
Iranian American has run for public office in the City of Atlanta.
Farokhi's campaign is rooted in plans to reform what he sees as an
inefficient city government that lacks the resources to effectively
respond to the concerns of Atlanta's residents and businesses.
Furthermore, he is an advocate of affordable housing and protecting and
empowering Atlanta's neighborhoods. His campaign has been endorsed by a
number of State Representatives from Atlanta, including Margaret Kaiser
and Stacey Abrams. He has also received the endorsement of a number of
Neighborhood Planning Units (citizen advisory councils) throughout the
City.
