"Thank you so much for your recent contribution to my campaign. Your support and the support of your members make it possible for me to continue the fight for the best interests of the people of the 14th Congressional District and the country."
Carolyn Maloney
U.S. House of Representatives (D-14th/NY)

Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney represents the 14th district in New York City. Her district contains many of the City's most historically well-known neighborhoods, including most of the East Side, Astoria, and Queens. After serving for ten years on the New York City Council, Maloney defeated a 14-year incumbent in her first race for Congress in 1992. She was reelected in 2004 with 81% of the vote and has never lost an election. Maloney serves on the House Financial Services Committee, the Government Reform Committee and is the ranking House Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee.  The Government Reform Committee is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives

Congresswoman Maloney has worked tirelessly to ensure that New York’s recovery from 9/11 is completed and that our national security is strengthened. A strong supporter of the 9/11 Commission, she and her colleague Congressman Christopher Shays formed the bipartisan 9/11 Commission Caucus upon the release of the commission’s final report. The Caucus’s goal is to enact each of the Commission’s 41 recommendations into law.

A proponent of civil liberties, Congresswoman Maloney is a cosponsor of House Resolution 367, condemning discrimination and bigotry against Iranian Americans. The resolution acknowledges the diversity of the Iranian American community and their contributions to the social and economic fabric of American society.  In addition, she is a sponsor of the Protection of Civil Liberties Act of 2005 (H.R. 1310).  The bill amends the intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act by making the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board an independent agency within the Executive Branch. It requires the Board to receive and review reports from privacy and civil liberties officers and report to specified congressional committees on Board activities and other appropriate matters.
