Congressman Anthony Weiner represents the New York City boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn.

Weiner began his career in public service in 1985 as an aide to then-Representative Charles E. Schumer. He worked for Schumer for six years, serving in both his Washington D.C. and New York City offices.  In 1991, at the age of 27, Weiner became the youngest person ever elected to the New York City Council, where he developed a reputation as a thoughtful legislator and a rising star.

Weiner was elected to Congress in 1999, taking the seat vacated by Schumer when he was elected to the Senate. As a Democratic Whip, Weiner is a leading spokesman for Democrats across the nation.

A member of the House Judiciary Committee , Weiner is a leading supporter of civil liberties.  Weiner is a co-sponsor of the Security and Freedom Ensured (HR 1526), which strengthens protections of civil liberties by amending the USA PATRIOT Act. In addition, Weiner is co-sponsor of the Civil Liberties Restoration Act of 2005 (CLRA), which terminates the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS) and other relative removal proceedings.  CLRA eliminates criminal penalties and deportation and established civil penalties for certain immigration violations.  If passed the legislation would positively impact the lives of Iranian nationals who are facing unjust deportation proceedings that resulted from the NSEERS program.  

A proponent of immigrant rights, Congressman Weiner has voted in favor of expanding visas for skilled workers as well as opposing measures that would place limits on legal immigration.   At a IAPAC Junior Trustee reception in New York City, Weiner explained that New Yorkers understand how important immigration is to the economy and its positive influence on the city.
