Carolyn Maloney
U.S. House of Representatives – 14 th District/ New York

Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney, represents the 14th district in New York City . Her district contains many of the city's most historic and well-known neighborhoods, including most of the East Side , Astoria and Queens . After serving for ten years on the New York City Council, Rep. Maloney defeated a 14-year incumbent in her first race for Congress in 1992. She was reelected in 2002 with 75% of the vote. Since being elected to Congress, Maloney has worked to modernize financial services laws and regulations while strongly advocating for consumer protections that are up-to-date with the increasingly global economy.

In the 108 th Congress, Maloney has been a strong proponent of civil liberties, voting to prevent sneak and peek searches by law enforcement officials and co-sponsoring the Freedom to Read Protection Act of 2003(HR 1157). In her speech at the IAPAC kick-off reception in New York, Congresswoman Maloney noted that “while we all realize it is vitally important to protect Americans better and to make sure that those who would do us harm cannot enter our country, we shouldn't preempt civil liberties or close our doors altogether in place of building efficient and effective visa policies, after all, we are a country of immigrants."
