Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senate (D-CA)
A forceful advocate for families, children, consumers,
the environment and her State of California, Barbara
Boxer became a United States Senator in January
1993 after 10 years of service in the House of
Representatives. She was elected to a second six-year
term in 1998 and is running for her third term
in 2004.
A strong proponent of immigrant rights and rational
visa policies, Boxer supports visas for skilled
workers and has backed past measurers doubling
the number of high-tech workers eligible for non-immigrant
work visas. Furthermore, Boxer has shown a keen
interest to better understand the domestic concerns
of the Iranian American community. She sent representatives
from her office to the Iranian
American Bar Association's briefing on Capitol
Hill and to Senator
Charles Schumer's meeting with the Department
of Justice, the Department of State and the Central
Intelligence Agency to discuss the regulations
that will be applied regarding the implementation
of Section 306.
