U.S. House of Representatives (D-7th/IN)

André D. Carson is the U.S. Representative for Indiana's 7th congressional district, serving since the special election in 2008. He is the grandson of his predecessor, former U.S. Representative Julia Carson (1938–2007).  Carson serves on the Select Intelligence and Transportation Committees.

Carson has established himself as an influential leader and respected public servant, fighting for good paying jobs, economic growth, and safer communities for Indiana’s working families.  During the 113th Congress, Carson serves as a Senior Whip for the House Democratic Caucus and as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus’s Executive Leadership Team.

A proponent of immigration reform and civil liberties, Carson is a cosponsor of the Dream Act of 2011 and the Border Security, Economic opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013.  He also cosponsored and voted in support of the USA Freedom Act of 2013, which brings several reforms to key government surveillance programs.

Carson is a supporter and original cosponsor of H.Res.156, a resolution in honor of the Iranian New Year (Nowruz).  In addition, he is an original co-sponsor of H.Res130, acknowledging the Cyrus Cylinder as a symbol of respect for human rights and religious tolerance and commemorating the cylinder’s tour in the United States.

A supporter of the Iran nuclear negotiations, Carson voted in favor of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 and for the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
